GUIDE FOR AUTHORS

General Instructions

We accept original research, brief research report, review articles, editorials, case reports and audits. Interesting radiological images, clinical findings and ECG changes can also be contributed. There is a special focus on narrative writing which can be submitted in reflections from ER, global perspective and developing EM sections. We are looking forward to your contributions to this journal in specific and to the dynamic field in general.

All submissions should have a title cover mentioning the title of the study, running title, names of all the authors and their affiliations, and the corresponding author. 
The recommended font is Times new roman, size 12, double spaced.

All submissions should have a cover letter stating the significance of their study and the rationale for submission in SAJEM


Original Research

Structured abstract word limit: 250 words

Recommended Format: Introduction, Methodology, Results, Discussion and Conclusion

Word count limit (excluding abstract and references): 2500 words

6 tables and/or figures.

References: 20-30, Vancouver style

Brief research report

Word count limit: 1000 words 

Abstract: 250 words, structured

Illustrations/ tables: 3

Clinical / Systematic Review

Word count limit: 4000 words

References: 30- 40

Editorial

Word count limit: 500 words

Audit

Word count limit: 500-750 words

References: 5

Brief Commentary

Word count limit: 750 words.

References: 8

Case Reports

Maximum 1,500 words, 10 references, and 2 figures.

Abstract: Non structured, 150 words
Recommended Format: Introduction, Case report, Discussion and Conclusion

Reflections from ER

Narrative from the lives of doctors working in an emergency. Maximum 1000 words

Correspondence ( Letters to the Editor)

Maximum 500 words, 5 references.

Images in Emergency Medicine

Unusual clinical findings or radiological images can be shared here with relevance to Emergency Medicine. The resolution of submitted images should be high. There should be accompanying clinical case scenario not extending more than 500 words

ECG Conundrum

Submitted images require a high resolution. It should be accompanied with a brief clinical case presentation with maximum 250-500 words. The submitted ECG should have a relevant learning point.

Global perspective:

A brief review on what is new in emergency medicine globally. Maximum words 500-750

Developing EM:

A section focused on how to make emergency care accessible in remote areas, how to create awareness about the field and to bring safe, cost-effective practices in a low resource setting for optimizing patient care. Maximum 500-750 words

For international authors: $ 20 ( US dollars)

This is a non-refundable fee. Please upload the bank receipt when you submit your manuscript.
