NIGERIAN VETERINARY JOURNAL

INSTRUCTIONS TO AUTHORS

1.      Scope

The Editorial Board of the Nigerian Veterinary Journal (NVJ) welcomes original scientific contributions and review articles of research, case reports, scientific letters which should cover past and recent developments in various areas of Veterinary Medicine and Animal Production. Reports of important activities at the Branch Chapter of the Nigerian Veterinary Medicinal Association (NVMA) are also within the scope of the journal.

2.      Format for articles

English of a high standard should be used in all cases. The Editorial Board may return without refereeing any manuscript that does not comply with the stipulated guidelines

 Title Page: The first page of each paper should indicate the full title written in capital    letters, the author’s name(s) (in capital letters) and the  author’s affiliations and the corresponding author’s full   address and the   institution where the work was conducted.

Second Page Summary: Each paper should have at the beginning, a concise summary giving a synopsis of the findings presented and the conclusion reached in not more than 250 words.

             Key Words and Running Title: Key words should not exceed five and running title

            should not exceed eight words.

            Article Structure: Manuscript should consist of; Summary, Introduction, Material and

Methods, Results, Discussion, Conclusion, Acknowledgements (where necessary),     References.

            Summary: Each paper should have at the beginning, a concise summary giving a

statement on the background of the study, aim and objectives of the study, methodology, key findings and the conclusions reached.

Short communication / Case reports should not exceed four typed pages with the Introduction, Materials and Methods. There is no summary for case reports and short communication, and results are combined with discussion. There should be as few references as possible. Italicized words should not be underlined.

            Tables: Each table must be on separate page, and the following points should be noted:

The word “TABLE” should be in capital with the table number in Roman numerals and centrally placed e.g. TABLE III. All the letters in the title except the first should be small. Tables should be drawn with as few lines as possible.

Figures (Illustrations) and Plates (Pictures): Legends to illustrations, numbered in Arabic numerals should be typed on a separate sheet. Good   drawings, done with black ink and original black and white photographs only are acceptable. Colour illustrations attract an extra charge of N1,500 (one thousand five hundred Naira) or $3 per page. On the back of each illustration, indicate its number, and  senior author’s name. Indicate the top of each illustration with pencil- drawn arrow.

References: Citing of references in the manuscript should be first   authors name with the year in bracket e.g. (Ahmed, 1988) or Ahmed (1988). Where there are more than two authors the first authors name  should be followed by the suffix et al (Ahmed et al., 1988). A list of all  references cited in the paper should be arranged alphabetically (by the authors name and year) and in this order.

  • All authors surnames followed by initials must be capitalize and the conjoining “and” before the last name be written in lowercase
  • Next is the year of publications in bracket.
  • The title of the publication cited, written in small letters except the first letter.
  • The next line should be indented, see online pdf version

 

When books and theses are cited, the first letter of every key word is capitalized.

The full name of the journals (in italics) in which the paper appears should come last along with the volume, issue number (in brackets) followed by a colon, and the first and last page of the reference article.

3.      ASSESSMENT

All manuscripts will be peer-reviewed by at least two independent referees. Paper recommended for publication by the reviewers may be subjected to further editorial review and the author(s) will be expected to submit an electronic copy of the corrected version of their manuscript through the journal website.

4.      PAGE CHARGE

A page charge of N1500.00 (One thousand five hundred Naira) or US $8 per typed page is levied. The cost for colour pages will be borne by the authors and attract an extra charge of N1,500 (one thousand five hundred Naira) or $3 per page.

5.      COPYRIGHT INFORMATION

Authors submitting a manuscript do so on the understanding that if it is accepted for publication, the copyright of the paper shall be assigned to the Nigerian Veterinary Journal. However, the Nigerian Veterinary Journal will not put any limitation on the personal freedom of the author to use materials contained in the paper in any other works which may be published.            

6.      PROOFS

One set of galley proofs may be sent to the author to be checked for printer’s errors only and should be returned with the least possible delay.

7.      SUBSCRIPTIONS

The annual subscription rates including postage (surface mail) and handling are:

                   Institutions: N2,000.00/$100

                   Individuals: N500.00/$25

8.      BACK VOLUMES

          Back issues are obtainable upon request at prevailing charges.   

9.      SUBMISSION OF MANUSCRIPTS

Manuscripts should be submitted online at   http://my.ejmanager.com/nvj/.

Prospective authors will first have to register as an author to get a username and password before submission can commence. Authors who have registered on the platform to use other Journals need not re-register but login using their details.

   PLEASE NOTE THAT UPLOADED ARTICLES MUST NOT CARRY AUTHOR NAMES AND AFFILIATIONS. ARTICLES THAT CARRY AUTHOR NAMES AND AFFILIATIONS ON THE SAME PAGE WILL AUTOMATICALLY BE REJECTED

10.    ADVERTISEMENT RATES

Back page:                     N25,000.00

Inner Back:                    N15,000.00

Inner Front:                    N20,000.00

Full Inside Page:            N10,000.00

Half Inside Page:            N6,000.00

11.    PAYMENTS

Payments should be made in certificate bank draft in the name of the journal, or paid into the journal’s account in UBA no. 1005796905, account name is Nigerian Veterinary Journal, and copy of the bank teller sent to nvj3003@yahoo.com.
